Content Warnings
Read what you need. Skip what you don’t.
The Inbetween Archives deals with war, trauma, damaged institutions, complicated relationships and people who have survived some deeply unpleasant things.
This page provides more detailed content information for readers who prefer to know what they’re walking into.
Warnings are kept as spoiler-light as possible, but some minor spoilers are unavoidable by their nature.
This is not an age-rating system, and individual responses to content vary. If something is important to your reading experience, please use the information below as a guide.

Flight Risk
Book Three of The Inbetween Archives
This book deals more directly with mental health, suicide, recovery and political manipulation.
Most prominent
Suicidal ideation and intent
This is a significant theme.
One character in particular is recovering from severe physical and psychological trauma and actively struggles with whether they want to continue living. Discussions of suicide are direct rather than euphemistic.

Loss of identity / loss of self
Several characters struggle with whether their thoughts, memories or bodies remain entirely their own.

Propaganda and political corruption
Government propaganda, manipulation of public fear, misinformation and political exploitation of wartime trauma are major themes.
These are all specifically identified in the novel’s own warning: propaganda and corruption, dissociation and mental unraveling, suicidal ideation and intent, violence, trauma, PTSD, loss of self, possession and sexual content.
Also includes
- Recovery from torture and severe injury
- Chronic physical impairment and frustration with disability/recovery

Sexual content
Consensual sexual content occurs on page.
The book also contains established romantic and polyamorous relationships between consenting adults.
Sex and romance are important to character relationships but remain secondary to the main science-fiction plot.
Ghost Formation
Prequel to The Inbetween Archives
Ghost Formation is probably the most consistently violent and institutionally brutal of the currently available books because much of it takes place during wartime training and active combat.
Most prominent
Child soldiers and underage conscription
Some central characters are teenagers when they are imprisoned, conscripted or brought into military systems.
Zane is sixteen when his story begins and is placed into military service through coercive circumstances.

The manuscript explicitly warns about graphic violence, executions, catastrophic injury, psychological trauma, body horror, child-soldier and conscription themes, death and war crimes.
Torture and coercion
Includes interrogation, beatings, threats, drugs, imprisonment and coercive recruitment.
Characters are sometimes offered choices that are not meaningful choices at all.
Graphic violence
Includes:
- Hand-to-hand violence
- Shootings
- Stabbings
- Executions
- Battlefield deaths
- Severe physical injury
- Blood and corpses
War
The novel follows Ghost Command through active conflict.
It includes military casualties, civilian casualties, battlefield trauma and morally compromised actions carried out during war.
Body horror and non-Euclidean horror
Includes physical distortion, alien/interdimensional effects, altered perception and environments that do not behave according to normal reality.
Also includes
- PTSD
- Dissociation
- Panic attacks
- Survivor’s guilt
- Psychological conditioning
- State control and institutional violence
- Forced labor / state-sanctioned exploitation

Sexual violence
There is a reference to threatened rape in a character’s backstory. The threatened assault itself does not occur on page; the character describes a family member being killed while protecting her from it.
Sexual content
The book includes consensual sexual relationships between adult characters once they are older.
Sex is discussed in the context of intimacy, trauma, comfort and survival, but the novel is not primarily romance-focused.
A note on violence and morality
These books contain characters who have killed people, tortured people, lied, manipulated, broken laws and participated in systems that caused harm.
The narrative does not necessarily endorse a character’s actions simply because that character is sympathetic or a protagonist.
Likewise, governments, military organizations, intelligence agencies, religions and other institutions within the series may present their own actions as necessary or justified.
They are not always reliable judges of themselves.
That is rather the point.
A note on mental health
Mental illness, trauma responses and suicidal thoughts occur throughout the series.
Characters sometimes:
- cope badly
- relapse
- dissociate
- refuse help
- self-isolate
- use humor or substances to avoid dealing with trauma
- rely heavily on other people
- make decisions while distressed
Other characters attempt to support them, sometimes successfully and sometimes not.
No individual character should be treated as a model of ideal mental-health care.
Especially Shade.
A note on relationships and consent
The series contains romantic, sexual, platonic and found-family relationships that can be emotionally intense.
Some characters share unusual forms of mental or emotional connection because of the science-fiction elements of the setting.
Where sexual relationships occur between protagonists, they are intended to be consensual adult relationships.
The books do, however, explore:
- compromised autonomy outside sexual situations
- coercion by institutions
- emotional dependency
- possessiveness
- trauma-related difficulty with touch
- complicated power dynamics
- rough consensual sexual behavior
Those distinctions matter within the story.
